The Lyric Theatre Sydney is a superb concert venue in the Star City Complex in Sydney, Australia. Featuring excellent acoustics and roomy, comfortable seating, it has presented some of the world’s foremost entertainers and shows. The Lyric Theatre and the larger Star City Complex are gems of the Sydney cultural scene, and simply being there is part of the thrill.
The Lyric Theatre Sydney features a varied lineup of performers. Beginning in June 2011, it will be showing “Hairspray,” the most acclaimed musical to come to Australia in recent times. In 2008 the theatre became the home of “The Phantom of the Opera,” a masterpiece that has garnered the praise of both critics and the public. Other shows to play at Sydney’s Lyric Theatre include “Oliver,” “Mamma Mia!” and the world premier of “Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.”
An impressive list of big names have played the Lyric Theatre. Artists as diverse as Tony Bennett and Julio Iglesias have appeared on its stage, and Elton John recently announced that the Sydney appearance on his upcoming tour will take place there.
The Lyric Theatre Sydney has a seating capacity of 2,000 and is wheelchair-friendly. There are disabled parking bays located near the carpark entrance lobbies. While the Star City carpark sometimes reaches capacity on weekends, there are other parking facilities nearby. So far 2011 has delivered a great range of quality performers
While it has only been in existence since 2001, the Lyric Theatre has already distinguished itself as one of the finest performance spots in Sydney, a tradition that will certainly continue.
