The Lyric Theatre in Sydney
Sydney, Australia offers visitors to the city numerous entertainment venues. One of the most popular is the Lyric Theatre, located on Pymont Street in Sydney. The theater is owned by the Foundation Entertainment Group, and provides popular productions such as West Side Story, Oliver, and Phantom of the Opera. In 2011, the Lyric Theatre premiered a gorgeous musical rendition of “Doctor Zhivago,” and 2012 will see the world premieres of both “An Officer and a Gentleman” and “Legally Blonde”.
The Lyric Theatre offers more than notable plays, however. In its past decade long history, the Sydney Lyric Theatre has provided a temporary home to music performers known around the world, including Bon Jovi, Elton John, Julio Iglesias and Tony Bennett. The Lyric Theatre is known for its venues and events and its ability to offer individuals of all ages the best in entertainment.
The Lyric Theatre is in a beautiful easily accessible location just off the Victoria Road, surrounded by the communities of Birchgrove, Balmain and Rozelle and the beautiful water vistas of the Parramatta River and Snails and Mort Bays.
Lyric Theatre offers an astounding 2,000 seats and a beautiful, elegant and warm ambience that has gained its popularity as the preferred venue for both local, statewide and international performances. The acoustics in Lyric Theatre are amazing, and its large main and rear stages, along with the orchestra pit, offers audiences the best for sound, viewing, and play, concert or opera enjoyment. The theater itself is designed in a horse- shoe shape, with two levels of balconies, and seating in stalls.
The stage itself is made up of a main stage, a side stage and rear stages depending on venue needs. The orchestra pit may also be raised when needed. Both the thrust stage (the raised orchestra pit) and the rear stage can be isolated on an acoustic level so that each stage can be used at the same time without overwhelming the audience.
Vehicle parking facilities are available within the Queensland Cultural Center for Lyric Theater parking events. The small orchestra pit accommodates 60 musicians, while the large orchestra pit may accommodate up to 90 musicians, which offers the best of both worlds for a rock concert, a play or an opera.
